Structual Soil Mix Includes Lightweight Aggregate to Reduce Compaction and Environmental Impact

The Nasher Sculpture Center, home of one of the finest private collections of modern sculpture in the world, is located in Dallas, Texas, in the city's Arts District. The 2.4-acre center, which opened in 2003 consists of a 54,000-square-foot building and will contain more than 300 pieces of sculpture, including major works by Moore, Calder, Picasso, David Smith and other modern masters.

TXI's Expanded Shale & Clay (ES&C) is provided lightweight aggregate from its Streetman manufacturing facility for use as a component in the structural soil mix for this project. Lightweight aggregate in the soil mix helps reduce soil compaction and provides the following additional qualities:

  • Environmentally friendly
  • Non-toxic
  • 100 percent inert and inorganic
  • Porous for good drainability
  • Insulative material that protects against rapid temperature extremes
